Steve Power, Head Coach

Steve learned to swim in the irrigation canals in Modesto, California. At the age of 7 1/2 his family moved to Sacramento and joined a summer pool (similar to SPRA) where he was asked to join the swim team. He swam summer league for three years before moving and joining a year round club. As a senior in high school he was a member of the Arden Hills Swim Club, coached by the legendary Olympic coach, Sherm Chavoor.

Steve attended the University of Washington on a swimming scholarship. At Washington he was a ten event All-American, Pac 8 champion, and multiple school record holder.

In 1970 Steve represented the United States at the World University Games, winning the 400 IM. In 1995 he was inducted into the University of Washington Hall of Fame.

Steve's coaching career began at the age of 16 during summers and Christmas vacations while in high school and college. After graduating from University of Washington in 1973, he began coaching full-time.

He coached swim teams in California and Alaska before coming State College
