SCAY News - February 23 Last Chance/States

SCAY News – February 23, 2010

Hello SCAY families,

Thank you to all of you who helped at Champs.  It was fun to watch our swimmers do so well.

 Last Chance Meet

This Saturday, February 27, is our last home meet, the “Last Chance Meet”   This meet offers swimmers from the league one last chance to make district times.    Any swimmer is very welcome to swim, regardless of how close they are to district times.   8 and unders will have to swim the 10 and under events, though, since there are no 8 and under events at Districts.

Here are the group assignments:

Concessions donations and volunteers:   Jr/Sr  Karen Myford  myford4@comcast.net

Set-up and extra volunteers for concessions:  D3  Mechteld Hillsley mechteld@engr.psu.edu

Tear Down:  D2   Terry Cumins   terrypsu@yahoo.com

Jr/Sr members, please remember to donate even if your swimmer is not planning to swim.  Karen has sent out the food item list.  There are a number of things that can be dropped off early.   Thanks!

 States Sign-ups

Attached you will find the sign up sheet for SCAYs responsibilities for States, which will be held at the PSU Natatorium on March 20 and 21, 2010.  We have over 120 shifts to fill at States, so it is quite an undertaking!   We split this evenly with Bellefonte, since we divide the profit with them.  They are a smaller team, so their families asked to volunteer 2-3 shifts per family.  We are asking 1-2 per family, preferably 2.  All families are asked to volunteer, regardless of whether they have a swimmer entered in the meet, because we all benefit from the money raised.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year!

Sign ups are NOT on line this year.  Please email me at jkoberna@stompit.net with what you would like to do.   You can also call me at 466-6163 (before 8:30pm) to sign up.    I will confirm right away.

You will notice that there are several teen jobs, including Awards (runner, missing swimmer chase down) and messengers.  (requires a cell phone)   This is a wonderful opportunity for teens to get their high school volunteer hours.  Let me know ASAP if you would like to help.   The sooner you sign up, the more likely you are to get the position you would like.    You will not be allowed on deck or free entry to the meet unless you have signed up to volunteer for a position!

Feel free to call me if you have any questions about the positions or the meet itself.  It really is exciting to be a part of this and to watch some of the best swimmers in the state (including our own!) compete.   Please take a moment and sign up ASAP.   I will begin calling people after March 8.  (I am busy, too, and would appreciate not having to resort to this!)                                                Have a good week, Jenny
