SCAY News – January 19, 2010
Hi everyone. I have lots of news today, so please read through everything carefully.
States Needs !We still are in desperate need of 2 chairs for the states committee. They are:
Fundraising: Joan Schrock was in charge of this last year and has all of the information you need. She has the names and addresses of businesses who have donated in the past, contact persons, and a form letter. The job involves sending a letter to the businesses (and any others you would like to add), then following up with a phone call in about 2 weeks if you haven’t heard back from them. We are offering adds in the program and on the States website this year. Joan has all the info and is happy to get you started! It is a great way to contribute “on your own time!”
Flowers: Heidi Wright held this position last year and has all of the information organized. She also offered to help if needed! This involves obtaining flowers from donors (she has the list) and then picking them up and getting them to the Nat. She has a list of supplies needed and has a lot left over from last year. (paper and ribbon to wrap the flowers in) You are not committed to be at the Nat all weekend. Saturday morning is probably the most important. Others will be assigned to help you during the shifts. This is a fun job – surrounded by flowers and happy people!
If you have any questions about these positions, please don’t hesitate to call me at 466-6163 or via email.
We really need these spots filled ASAP!
Other volunteers on the committee from SCAY include:
Meet Director: Steph Albert
T-shirts: Mechteld Hillsley
Finance: Russ Schrock
Hospitality: Roxane Miller and Terry Cumins
Officials: Cory Miller
Awards: Brad Ross and Shawn Quinn
Coaches Registration: Rosemary Parry and Karen Myford
Volunteer Coordinator: Jenny Koberna
As most of you know, we share responsibilities for running the State YMCA Championships with the Bellefonte YMCA This is a huge undertaking. It is also our major fundraiser of the year. (helps us afford new equipment, computers, timing system updates, trophy case, meet entry fees, etc – and pizza!) Since this benefits everyone, every family on the team is expected to help for at least 1-2 sessions during the meet, even if your child isn’t swimming. (many of us are there all weekend) Please save the dates: March 20-21, 2010!
Late NightWe had a very good turn out for Late Night at the Y - 86 swimmers signed in. (There may have been a few more that missed the sign in) Thanks to everyone that donated food and drinks and volunteered to help. We went through 20 extra large pizzas, as well as other goodies. Special thanks to Kristen Caswell for her amazing homemade muffins! As always, the highlight of the evening was the pool coin toss…
Meet NotesA big thank you to everyone who chipped in to run the Philipsburg Meet this past Saturday. They are a small team, and are just getting started. I think we ended up supplying all of the timers as well as the other “home” positions. Thank you!
This Saturday’s Meet is with Ridgeway at Ridgeway. More information will be following later this week from Steve. Directions are as follows:
Lost and Found:
Shawn Quinn has 3 female suits – 1 SCAY and 2 Park Forest frog suits. One is a size 30. She also has a SCAY cap. If you are missing these, please call her at 880-8620. Also, the Cullins never found their cap and goggles. If you know of their whereabouts, please let them know. Remember to check the general lost and found to the left of the kitchen at the YMCA when you find something missing. Things generally get placed there (except for goggles) A few towels, some socks, and a pair of goggles were left at Late Night. I think the Y donates these items to charity if they are not picked up within the week.
As usual, don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or ideas.
Happy Swimming!
Jenny
